Story of 444 - Jan 2009
I first noticed the combination of '4's which became more '444' than others, when I drove out one morning to work - some three years ago! I was about to pull out on to the A444 - a busy rural link road and had come to a halt long enough in the early pre-dawn darkness, to notice that my Car had clocked 44,444 miles and it was 4.44 in the morning and my average mpg was 44.4! All the 4's were in a line and shining in bright orange from the dash board! I thought -mmmm! interesting - but I was glad when the dial moved forward to 44,445 miles once I hit the open road and continued on in safety! A couple of days later - after this had played on my mind, we had new mobile phones for the office and I gave out one to the Secretary and she read me the new number to enter into my own mobile - It ended 444! I pulled into a Petrol Station that day and a big 4 X 4 pulled in with the Reg ending 444.
I began to think about it more and more! A few days later myself and three friends set off for Spain on a Golfing Trip. There were 4 of us, and we were to stay at an apartment that had come about by accident -due to the original arrangement falling through, my friend had only got the apartment at the last minute - from a friend of a friend. IT was number 44! On the first day we were allocated Golf Carts - I got the keys to '44'! On the third day one of the guys had a call from home -Wife has had a heart attack! We all rallied to get the full story and made arrangement to get the husband on the next plane! It turned out that it was not too critical but he returned home and we stayed, at his insistence, for the last day -the 4th!
That morning we rose early to get in one more game before catching our flight! The 'restless' one among us was up and working on his computer when I arrived in the lounge. The TV was on and West Indies were playing South Africa at Cricket! My friend asked me the score whilst he had his head deep into his work - it was 4 -44! We both laughed out loud when I told him - he just happened to look at the time in his computer which said 7.44! Having told them all by this time about my 'sequences' and been the object of much amusement on the trip - my friend said - if we get called to gate 44 when we get to the Airport - you can get that **** plane home on your own! We had one more laugh about it before getting to the Airport and relaxing ready for take off when the announcement came - 'All passengers for East Midlands Airport please report to - Gate 44! For some minutes I sat very still, thinking very seriously about whether to take my seat or not! The strange aspect that four of us flew out but just three of us \were returning together made it even more spooky! But I decided that my '4' was a 'positive' not a negative force, and duly caught the plane home! Much of the talk on the flight was about 'fate and destiny' - but we landed OK- at around 3.44 English time! (4.44 Spanish time)! there was always the lurking possibility that 44 was going to be lucky for me and I had for more than 7 years done a line on the national lottery ending with 44!
We had once lived in number 144 - so it was the nearest thing on the UK National lottery ticket! I had no real chances up to that point, however there was something even more interesting that particular Friday! The Euro millions Jackpot had been 'rolled-over' several times to reach a record 120 million pounds! It was to be drawn that night and we all agreed that I should put on a few lines! I took a one pound fifty from each member as we waited for our luggage on carousel number 4! Adding an equal amount for our missing friend I did four lines with a mix of numbers using 4 and 44 where I thought might give best odds! I didn't really do it scientifically but spotted a vital option - 34 44 and 46 meant that 4 4's could be in a row! ( Of course you need the other four numbers exactly right or you would win nothing anyway! That is just what happened! We won nothing because the two 'Star' numbers were completely wrong! Since then 44 and 444 have been constant companions. Unfortunately there is a sequence that should really have put and end to my captivity but I continue to think about it positively despite the sudden death of my beloved Mother! She passed away on 14/04/2008 14th April!! Before surgery they put her in Ward 4 X - next to 4Y and 4Z! I should have stopped the operation but did not have the conviction! She did not recover from surgery! I have charted my 'life' number from time, date and day of birth and found it to be 4!
I stayed in an hotel recently and got Room 44! Was allocated seats in a party of 30 plus theatre goers and I got -44! The last live football match I attended finished a draw -4 - 4! Just last week I was offered a 'cherished' number plate on the internet quite at random - my initials and '444'!I definitely do not go looking for it - in fact I live in hope of it fading away - or bringing me some luck or even a bit of sunshine in my life! What do you think......? Meanwhile may the '4's' be with you!
